Kathelene McCarty Smith

Kathelene McCarty Smith is an Associate Professor and Head of the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections and University Archives at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She also teaches Archival Preservation, Curation, and Access for the University's Department of Information, Library, and Research Sciences. Smith earned her bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in art history from Louisiana State University (LSU) and holds a master's degree in library and information studies from UNCG.

Her research and writing interests involve the mobilization of North Carolina's women's colleges during World War I, as well as the United States' subsequent efforts document individual states' participation during the War. She has also written on teaching with primary sources, the digitization of archival collections, and volunteerism in the archives.
